Summer Update & Independence Day Weekend

Newport Landing Summer Update & Independence Day Weekend

Summer has officially arrived at Newport Landing, and we're looking forward to another great season on the lake. Below are a few important updates, upcoming events, and reminders to help everyone have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.

🎸 Schmidt Brothers Live at the Lake

Friday, July 3 | 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Join your neighbors for an evening of live music featuring The Schmidt Brothers, Iowa's premier rock, pop, and country cover band.

Location: Open lot near the gas dock adjacent to West Bay.

Bring your lawn chairs, gather with friends and neighbors, or enjoy the music from your dock or boat. Whether you're on shore or on the water, we hope you'll come out and enjoy one of Newport Landing's favorite summer traditions.

Please help make the evening enjoyable for everyone by:

  • Respecting neighboring properties

  • Keeping roadways and walking paths clear

  • Disposing of trash properly

  • Following all posted lake rules and boating regulations

🎆 Independence Day Fireworks

Saturday, July 4 | 10:00 PM

Our annual Newport Landing fireworks display returns on Saturday, July 4th at 10:00 PM.

Whether you're watching from your backyard, dock, or boat, we hope you'll join us for another memorable evening on the lake.

Please expect heavier-than-normal boat traffic before and after the show and plan accordingly.

🚤 Holiday Weekend Lake Safety

The July 3rd and 4th weekend is traditionally the busiest boating weekend of the year. Thank you to everyone who helps make Newport Landing a safe and enjoyable place for residents and guests alike.

ALL Coves Are NO WAKE

A reminder that every cove within Newport Landing is a No Wake zone.

Under both Nebraska law and Newport Landing Lake Rules, No Wake means operating your boat at 5 MPH or less.

This applies to all coves, whether or not a buoy is immediately visible.

Please also remember to:

  • Slow down well before entering a cove.

  • Give swimmers, paddleboarders, kayakers, docks, and shorelines plenty of room.

  • Be mindful of the wake your boat creates, even when transitioning on and off plane.

  • Follow the established counterclockwise boating traffic pattern.

Expanded No Wake Area Around the Gas Dock

To improve safety during the busy holiday weekend and support the Schmidt Brothers lake concert, the HOA will be temporarily extending the No Wake area surrounding the gas dock.

This additional buffer will help protect residents gathering along the shoreline, improve safety for boat traffic entering and exiting the marina area, and provide a safer environment during the concert and holiday festivities.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation as we work to keep one of the busiest areas of the lake safe for all.

Around the Lake

Boat Ramp Gate Improvements

The Board recently approved improvements to the boat ramp gate system through the installation of a new standalone pedestal to improve long-term reliability.

Please help us by ensuring the gate fully closes behind you each time you enter or exit. Keeping the gate closed helps protect access to our private lake and community amenities.

Pump & Water System Maintenance

This spring, our lake pump system underwent its scheduled annual maintenance to help ensure reliable operation throughout the season. As part of that work, two pumps were proactively replaced to improve long-term system reliability.

In addition, the creek intake area was recently cleaned and cleared of accumulated sediment and debris to maximize water flow into the pump system. Keeping the intake clear helps ensure the pumps can efficiently move water throughout the lake when needed.

Creek Maintenance

Additional maintenance has also been completed within the creek corridor to remove sediment and improve water movement leading to the pump intake. This preventative work helps protect the long-term performance of our lake's water management system.

Trail Connection Update

The Newport Landing HOA continues to work collaboratively with Newport Vista regarding the recently installed trail connection adjacent to our community.

We appreciate the ongoing conversations and remain committed to finding a long-term solution that respects property ownership while maintaining a positive relationship between both neighborhoods. We'll continue to keep residents informed as discussions progress.

From the Lake Manager

Steve continues regular lake patrols throughout the boating season with a focus on safety, education, and helping everyone enjoy the lake responsibly.

Over the past several weeks, Steve has issued a number of verbal warnings and documented rule violations, primarily involving excessive speed and wake creation within No Wake areas. We appreciate the many residents who have adjusted their boating after these conversations. Our goal is always education first, helping keep the lake safe and enjoyable for everyone.

If you have not yet received your current boat registration stickers, please contact Steve.

If you notice maintenance concerns or lake safety issues, please report them through the HOA website or directly to Steve so they can be addressed promptly.

Residents may also see the Bennington Police Department conducting periodic training exercises on the lake throughout the season. They have been asked to follow Newport Landing's established boating traffic pattern during their training exercises.

Thank You

Thank you to our volunteers, committee members, Lake Manager, and residents who continue to make Newport Landing such a wonderful place to live.

We wish everyone a safe, relaxing, and memorable Independence Day weekend. We look forward to seeing you at the Schmidt Brothers concert and celebrating together at the annual fireworks show.
